Clearabee figures are one national operator's fixed published prices including VAT. Fantastic Services and RubbishBids figures are ranges from their 2026 price guides; RubbishBids quotes a lower range for a 2 seater (£45 to £80) than Fantastic Services. Council figures are minimum charges from Business Waste's July 2026 survey and may not include a sofa.
What moves the price
- Size and type: Clearabee charges £61 for a 2 seater, £73 for a 3 seater and £101 for a reclining corner sofa.
- POPs handling: upholstered seating must be kept separate and incinerated, which costs more than landfill or mixed waste.
- Access: stairs with no lift, or a corner sofa that has to be split into sections, add labour.
- London and the South East cost more: Fantastic Services puts a large item at £75 to £150 there, against £60 to £120 elsewhere.
- Adding a sofa to a mixed load usually means a per-item surcharge: RubbishBids lists +£20 to £35.

Questions about sofa removal
Do the POPs rules apply to mattresses?
No. GOV.UK lists mattresses, curtains, blinds and beds as outside the upholstered seating rules. Mattresses still usually carry a disposal charge because they are bulky and recycled separately.
Will a furniture shop take my old sofa?
Some retailers offer to collect your old sofa when they deliver a new one, often for a fee. Ask at the time of purchase and check the collection is by a registered waste carrier.
