What moves the price
- Weight: most RoRo prices are a container fee plus a charge per tonne, so a full container of heavy waste costs far more than the headline price.
- Waste type: mixed general waste bears landfill tax at £130.75 a tonne, while clean inert waste such as soil and rubble is taxed at £8.65 a tonne (GOV.UK, from 1 April 2026).
- Haulage: firms such as Mick George charge for each delivery and again for each exchange, so a site needing weekly swaps pays haulage every time.
- Segregation: separate containers for timber, metal or cardboard usually cost less to process than one mixed load.
- Region: gate fees at transfer stations vary across the country, as they do for smaller skips.
