Load prices are from Fantastic Services' 2026 green waste cost guide; MyBuilder's figure is a single range for a typical load, so the two are not directly comparable. The council bin figure is Fantastic Services' estimate of a typical subscription, not a council survey: check your own council's price.

What moves the price

  • Volume sets the price for light green waste such as grass, leaves and hedge trimmings.
  • Weight sets the price for soil, turf, stone and logs, which fill a van's payload long before its space.
  • Labour adds cost when the crew cuts back, digs out or bags the waste rather than only loading it.
  • London and the South East run 20 to 30% higher, according to Fantastic Services.
  • Japanese knotweed needs a permitted disposal site and is quoted separately.

Questions about garden waste removal

Can I put Japanese knotweed in my green bin?

No. GOV.UK says knotweed waste taken off site must go by a registered waste carrier to a landfill or incineration site with the correct permit. Tell any firm about knotweed before it quotes.

Can I take garden waste to the tip myself?

Yes, household garden waste can go to your council's recycling centre, and Fantastic Services notes this is free for household garden waste. Some centres ask you to book a slot, so check your council's website first.
