It was established in Harold Hill in 1948 by its founder, Patrick Ahern, and its head office and main operations have been at a Materials Recovery Centre in West Thurrock since 2005.

Its waste collection services include skip hire, roll on/off container hire, eurobins and wheelie bins, and rear end loader and front end loader collections. Other services include food waste collection, dry mixed recyclables, glass bottle disposal, collection of waste electrical and electronic equipment, fluorescent tube recycling, hazardous waste collection, site clearance, bulk haulage, grab hire and muck away, and the supply of primary and recycled aggregates.

The business operates waste transfer and recycling centres and material recovery facilities, and has access to energy from waste facilities, composting facilities and land reclamation sites. It can provide and service on-site equipment such as static and mobile compaction and baling equipment, and shredding can also be arranged. Its history includes skip vehicles added in the 1960s and the operation of transfer stations for industrial and commercial waste.
